Deopham History

Rev. Andrew Warner

A.S. Warner, Curate, first appears in the Deopham Burials Register in October 1831. He had been appointed as a stipendiary curate of Wicklewood in 1829 with a stipend of “one hundred and twenty pounds and the surplice fees”. It was presumably in this capacity that he was helping out in Deopham.

A letter of 1832 concerning the charities of Deopham is signed A.S. Warner stating that he is the curate of the Parish of Deopham.

He signed the register as “A.S. Warner, Curate” until 1832, the year that William Corbould was appointed Curate of Deopham. From August 9th 1832 onwards he signed the Register as “A.S. Warner, Officiating Minister” (on those occasions when William Corbould was not officiating).

The Rev. Andrew Siely Warner was licensed to the office of stipendiary curate of Deopham on June 24th 1835, with a stipend of “fifty pounds and the surplice fees” to be paid by the Incumbent. This licensing is after the date of the above charities letter, and after the first entry in the Burials Register.

The Rev. A.S. Warner officiated at his last Deopham funeral on September 25th 1844 when Lucy Knights was buried.
