Ray Breeze

Ray Breeze, late of Deopham Green. The following photograph was taken on the Watton Road at Kimberley, near the house where he was born. I believe his passenger is Vera, but I cannot recall her family name. If you know, please let me know – Geoff@DeophamHistory.co.uk

Photo supplied by Ray Breeze.

Jimmy Sturman

Photo supplied by Phil Long.

The Retreat was the name given to the Tin School after its closure in 1924. In the picture is Hettie (née Turner) and James (Jimmy) Sturman. The motorbike appears to be a Raleigh Model 6, manufactured c1925, which dates the photo as possibly the late 1920s.

Clifton Kerry & Percy Darkins

At the head of the horse is Clifton Kerry, with Percy Darkins standing beside the horse:

The Allen Family

Photo forwarded by Jacky Phoenix.

The wedding of Julia Allen to George Barker: Hall Farm, 1914.
The boy to the left of the dog is Michael Allen’s father, Archie, with his aunt to the right of the dog and his uncle, Ted, sitting on the ground a little further right.
The clergyman in the back row on the left is the Rev. New, and the clergyman at the back right is the Rev. Treglown.

Thanks to Michael Allen for the use of this photo.

Three generations of the Allen family: from the left:-
Walter (Michael Allen’s grandfather), Ted (Michael’s uncle), Archie (Michael’s father) and William (Michael’s great-grandfather).

Jack Keatley

Phil Long, who forwarded this photo, says that Jack Keatley had quite a big milk round business based at their thatched cottage located in Hingham Rd, just up the road from Shaw’s Farm. There were about 5 garages to house the vans on site as well as a petrol pump. The Keatley children and their cousins are shown here in front of the van.

This photo is taken from an EDP article of March 19th, 1960 which is posted in full here. The children drank nothing but milk because the water was not safe (and possibly also because their father ran the local milk deliveries!).

Long-Leverett Wedding

This wedding took place on June 7th 1930 at the Primitive Methodist Church, Deopham Green, between Mr. Arthur Long, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Long, Stalland Farm, Deopham, and Miss Edith Maud Leverett, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. Leverett, Laurel Farm, Deopham. The bridesmaids were Miss Jean Kenny and Phyllis Abbs (on the right in this photo). A full description of this wedding can be read here. At the back right of this photo is Mr Arthur Long whose funeral is described here.

Thanks to Philip Long for this photo.

Elizabeth Leverett

Phil Long writes that “this photo of the Sunnyside Farmhouse was taken in the early 1900s. The lady on the left is Elizabeth Leverett (née Overton) and she was the widowed occupier at that time. Elizabeth was born in Deopham in 1843 and married James Leverett at Deopham Church in 1862. He was the occupier of a 25 acre farm up at the Stalland. James died at the early age of 43 in 1875, so it was probable Elizabeth sold the farm shortly after his death and moved to Sunnyside Farm. The gentleman next to her in the photo is possibly her son, Charles Leverett. At that time he was the owner of Glassbottle Farm in Hingham Road.”

Thanks to Philip Long for this photo.
