For some reason, a second return was made, albeit showing slightly different details. Although this return shows the ship as being the “Sultan”, it is clear from the passenger lists (see below) that Sultana is correct.

The Lloyds Register of Shipping for 1850 lists the Sultana as below; this shows the Master as being Mainland, which matches the Commander’s signature on the list above:-
