Biography
1617 – 1684
Augustine Briggs was a strenuous supporter of King Charles. He married Elizabeth Aldred of Colney in 1642; the couple had seven sons (one of whom was also called Augustine) and one daughter. Augustine Briggs served as Sheriff in 1660, Mayor in 1670 and M.P in 1677. He died in 1684 and was buried in St. Peter Mancroft Church where his monument, which has been engraved by Blomefield, remains. He was admitted to the freedom of the city as a grocer in 1644.
He was buried in in St Peter Mancroft in Norwich, a church which had benefited from his charitable donations.

Involvement with Deopham
Although not a resident of Deopham, he held the Lordship of the Manor of Shadwells otherwise Cockerells in Morley jointly with Thomas Wisse from 1670 – 1672. The first Court was on November 7th 1670 and the last Court on December 16th 1672 In this capacity, he would have authorised changes of property ownership in Deopham, and collected rents and fines from transactions of land controlled by the Manor of Shadwells otherwise Cockerells.
