Will of Edmund Badcock
The following is a paraphrase of the will of Edmund Badcock dated July 15th 1838 as recorded in the Court Roll; the executors appointed were his son William Badcock and Garrett Oddin Taylor of Deopham, Farmer.
Edmund Badcock gave and devised All and every his Messuages, Cottages, Lands, Tenements and Hereditaments whatsoever in Deopham aforesaid or elsewhere of whatever Tenure the same might be unto Sarah Badcock his Wife and her Assigns for and during the term of her natural life, She keeping the Buildings in good and Tenantable repair and committing no waste upon any part of the said Premises and also Insuring the Buildings in manner therein mentioned;
And from and after the decease of his said Wife he Gave and devised unto his said Son William Badcock and his Heirs,
All his Messuage called the Half Moon situate in Deopham aforesaid then in his own occupation with the Blacksmith’s Shop and other Buildings, Yards, Gardens, Orchards and Land thereto adjoining and belonging and containing together six acres (more or less) of whatsoever Tenure the same might be
To hold the said Premises unto and to the use of his said son William Badcock, his Heirs and Assigns for ever
Subject nevertheless to two Legacies of Ten pounds a piece to his daughters Rebecca the Wife of John Baker and Elizabeth Badcock,
and also to a Legacy of Ten Pounds thereafter give to his Executors in trust for his Daughter Caroline, the Wife of James Nixon and which said Legacies the said Testator charged on the said Hereditaments and Premises devised to his said Son and directed them to be Paid at the end of Six calendar Months next after the decease of his said Wife,
and he Authorized, empowered and directed his said Executors or the Survivor of them his Executors or Administrators to Sell and dispose of his of his two Cottages in Deopham then or late in the several occupations of James Foster and — Bush, with the Outbuildings, Yards and Gardens thereto adjoining and belonging.
And also all his Land then in his occupation adjoining the said Cottages and Gardens containing Seven Acres (more or less) of whatever Tenure the same were, and declared that the receipt of his said Executors should be a sufficient discharge for the Purchase Money.
