Extract from the will of Edward Payne
The following extract, written in English, from the will of Edward Payne dated November 2nd 1680 has been copied into the record of this Court:
Item: I give & bequeath unto Edward Payne my Grandchild
All that my Messuage or Tenement with the Crofte thereunto adjoining, containing by estimation Five Acres (whether the same be more or less) lying & being in Deopham aforesaid
And also one other piece of Land Adjoyning to the said Crofte containing by estimation Five Acres, both which pieces I purchased of one Thomas Walters
And also One other piece of Land inclosed which I purchased of One Thomas Smith, woolcomber, lying in Deopham aforesaid, containing by estimation Seven Acres
And also One other Inclose of Land lying in Deopham aforesaid containing by estimation Four Acres & three roods: Four Acres & One rood thereof I purchased of one George Brooke & the other Two roods I purchased of Thomas Smith
And also All those Four Inclosures of Land & Pasture which I purchased of one Leonard Newman, lying & being in Deopham aforesaid;
And also All the Lands which I purchased of George Cooper, Clerk, lying in Deopham aforesaid containing by estimation Five Acres (whether the same be more or less);
And also All manner of Evidences & Writings to those premisses & any part thereof belonging;
To have and to hold the said premisses & any of their Appurtenances unto him the said Edward Payne during the Term of his natural Life
And after the decease of him the said Edward Payne,
Then to the Issue of his body lawfully begotten & then living,
And for want of Such Issue to be then living, I give & bequeath
All the said premisses with their Appurtenances unto the said Stephen Payne & Joseph Payne my Grandchildren aforesaid & to their heirs for ever to be equally divided betwixt them.
