Background
The Memorandum includes the following details:-
The late Right Honourable Robert Thornagh Baron Cranworth devised his assets to his son Bertram Francis Baron Cranworth (described in the will as Bertram Francis Gurdon) during his life.
The Right Honourable Robert Thornagh Baron Cranworth died October 13th 1902.
The following trustees of the Settlement created by the will of Robert Thornagh Baron Cranworth were appointed:-
- Bertram Francis Baron Cranworth
- Edward Temple Gurdon of 28, Lincoln’s Inn Fields, London, Solicitor
- Frederick Granville Sinclair of Barrogill Castle, Caithness, North Britain, Esquire
The Enfranchisement
The said Bertram Francis Baron Cranworth as Beneficial Owner by virtue of the powers vested in him by the Settled Land Acts 1882 to 1890 granted and enfranchised unto the said Charles Edward Clarke and his heirs
All those two closes of land containing together by measure eight acres, three roods and sixteen perches thereinafter described
Together with the rights reserved by Section 23 of the Copyhold Act 1894
To hold the said pieces of land hereby enfranchised with the appurtenances as freehold thenceforth freed and discharged for ever thereafter from all quit and other rents, fines, suits and services which by the custom of the said Manor were or had been done, paid or performed in respect of the said hereditaments and premises unto the said Charles Edward Clarke and his heirs
To the use of the said Charles Edward Clarke, his heirs and assigns for ever.
