Introduction
The Curson Farm was located to the south of Deopham Green Chapel; the farmhouse has long since been demolished.
The 1814 Inclosures map recorded that Robert Curson had 12 acres of land.
Details of the land making up this farm in 1843 were recorded in the Tithe Apportionment Survey – see here (where the surname is spelt Curzon). The farm comprised 16 acres of land.
The following extract from the map attached to the Tithe Survey shows the location of their farm:

John Curson Junior
His occupation was recorded in White’s Directory of 1845 as farmer and castrator, whereas his death certificate recorded his profession as being simply “castrator”.
He died on April 17th 1847 in Deopham – before his father. The death certificate recorded the cause of death as being “Suppression of Urine for 32 hours”.
Because he died without making a will, his widow Jane Curson was appointed executrix and an Administration Bond was signed.
John Curson Senior
John Curson senior sold the land for the Deopham Green Chapel to the Methodists; the following extract (which reads “John Curson the elder of Deopham”) is from the sale conveyance:

John Curson senior died in January 1850 – three years after his son.
The Will
The executors of the will of John Curson senior were Maria Curson (his wife) and Jeremiah Curson (his brother).
The principal property mentioned is a group of cottages in Deopham which had come to John Curson after the death of his son John Curson. These cottages were left primarily for the benefit of his daughter, Sarah Jane Curson who was given power to determine who should inherit them, either by deed or by her own will. If she made no such appointment, the property would belong to her outright and to her heirs.
The Deopham cottages were burdened with a £100 mortgage. The testator specifically directed that this debt should remain charged on those cottages and not be paid out of his general estate, thereby protecting the rest of his assets from that liability.
The location of these cottages is uncertain: it is likely to be either in Haffield Lane or by the Blacksmiths Pub on the Green.
There is a full copy of the will here.
