For many years, a huge chestnut tree has been growing outside Hall Farm; the following photo was taken in September 2018:

On September 19th 2023 this tree, beloved by many generations of conker collectors, was felled by the wind. After initially blocking the road, it was soon cleared to the side and after a couple of days logged and shredded; damage to the fence and the barn conversion roof was rapidly repaired.
Its age is not known; Michael Allen has said that he can remember his father saying that a large part of it came down in 1947; it is believed that this was as a result of a lightning strike. The tree must have been a fair size then and went on to recover from that set back.
Now it’s history.
