Samuel and Mary Phoenix-Stone

According to the 1921 census, Samuel and Mary Phoenix-Stone were living in the village, although that census did not record addresses. The household included six children. In the 1939 register, Samuel and Mary’s address is given as Low Common. Three of their children were still living at home; Henry though had moved to Jubilee Cottages.

Henry and Amy Phoenix-Stone

Henry Phoenix-Stone (generally known as Harry) and Amy (née Lloyd) moved to No 1, Jubilee Cottages, Deopham sometime between 1921 (when he was still with his parents Samuel & Mary – see above) and 1939 when he was recorded as living with his wife Amy and their three children.
At the time of the 1911 census, Amy (her full name was Agnes Amy) was living with her parents James and Mary Lloyd in Halffield Lane in Deopham; she was one of nine siblings.
Henry and Amy lived at No 1, Jubilee Cottages until their deaths: Amy Phoenix-Stone died in 1964 and Henry Phoenix-Stone in 1981.
They had two sons – Geoff & Ray, and one daughter Hilda who married Bertie Snowling.
The following image of Henry & Amy Phoenix-Stone dates from 1946:

Death announcement – 1981

Although buried in Deopham churchyard, there is no memorial to Henry or Amy Phoenix-Stone.

The undertakers supplied a schedule of the messages in the floral tributes given at Henry’s funeral.

Geoff Phoenix-Stone

Geoff Phoenix-Stone was the son of Henry and Amy Phoenix-Stone; he was brought up at No 1, Jubilee Cottages. He never married.
He lived at No 1 until just after his father died in 1981 after which time he moved to Attleborough with Hilda (née Phoenix-Stone) and Bertie Snowling.

The following envelope contained a listing of the cards attached to flowers at the funeral of his father, Henry Phoenix-Stone (as reproduced above). It is addressed to Geoff Phoenix-Stone at Jubilee Cottages and postmarked 1981 indicating that he was still living there at that date. The cottage was sold later that year.

Hilda Phoenix-Stone

Hilda Phoenix-Stone was born in 1928 and brought up in No 1, Jubilee Cottages. She married Bertie Snowling and moved to Park Farm, Morley Road, Attleborough. The following image dates from 1946 when she was aged 17:
