Robert Mason was born in 1846 in Deopham, son of Robert and Lydia both of whom were also born in Deopham. The father was a master tailor; he died on January 12th 1881 at the age of 60 after a short illness and was buried in Deopham churchyard on January 16th. The 1861 census lists the members of the family living in Deopham Green.
