1814 – Inclosures

1829 – Sale to Daniel Smith

At the Court of the Manor of Deopham Hall held on May 20th 1829 it was recorded that Daniel Smith purchased pieces 1 & 177 (see 1814 map above) in a complex transaction going back to the Robert Herring shown on the 1814 map.

1840 – Sale to Henry Shaw

It was recorded at the Court of the Manor of Deopham Hall held on July 22nd 1841 that Henry Shaw of Gissing, farmer, on October 3rd 1840 had purchased “piece no 1” and “piece no 177” (see 1814 map above) from Daniel Smith for £740. Although announced at this Court, it was not until the Court of the Manor of Deopham Hall held on February 27th 1843 that the obligations to the Manor were acknowledged and the fine paid to the Lord of the Manor.

1896 – Death of Henry Shaw

The following announcement appeared in the London Gazette published on January 12th 1897:

1901 – Sale of farm

There is an advert for the sale of Shaw’s Farm in 1901 here; it was stated in this advert that the tenant farmer at that time was Mr. S. Baldwin.

H.W.R. Inscription

The following inscription is to be found on a gable wall of an outhouse at Shaw’s Farm. It is not yet known to whom the initials H.W.R. refer.
