Deopham History

The Manor of Which Mr Ganning was the Lord

The title of this page comes from Page 2 of a letter from Mr. Samuel Gilman dated October 6th 1796, mainly on the subject of Inclosures, but in which he lists out the various manors active in Deopham at that time:

Mr Gilman does not give any details about Mr. Ganning’s forenames or place of residence.

The Court Roll for the Special Court of Manor of Shadwells otherwise Cockerells in Morley held on November 12th 1788 refers to “Daniel Ganning, Gentleman, Lord of the Manor”.

The record of the Manor of Deopham Hall’s Court of 1775 states that [Rev.] William Grigson, son of Robert Grigson, surrendered some land to Daniel Ganning.
Blomefield wrote that Robert Grigson M.D.1 had been Lord of the Manor of Shadwell’s or Cockerell’s at the time he wrote his history in 1739; Blomefield also wrote that the Rev. William Grigson had purchased his advowson from the Manor of Shadwell’s or Cockerell’s.
