Sir Philip Wodehouse, 1st Baronet

Biography

Sir Philip Wodehouse, 1st Baronet (died 30 October 1623), was an English baronet, soldier and Member of Parliament.
Sir Philip Wodehouse was the son of Sir Roger Woodhouse, of Kimberley, Norfolk, and Mary Corbet, daughter of John Corbet, and was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge (1575), and trained in the law at Lincoln’s Inn (1580).
He sat as Member of Parliament for Castle Rising from 1586 to 1587. He was knighted in 1596 for his actions during the capture of Cádiz, and in 1611 he was created a Baronet, of Wilberhall in the County of Norfolk. He was appointed a Justice of the Peace for Norfolk from c. 1591 and High Sheriff of Norfolk for 1594–1595.1

Sir Philip Wodehouse is mentioned in the Court Roll for the Court of May 6th 1622, where it is also mentioned that land he owned had previously been owned by Sir Roger Woodhouse.

Sir Thomas Wodehouse, 2nd Baronet

Biography

Sir Thomas Wodehouse was the son of Philip Wodehouse and Grizell. He was born in Kimberley circa 1585 and died at Kimberley on March 18th 1658.
He was the member of parliament for Thetford from 1640 to 1653.
He was succeeded in the baronetcy by his son Philip.

Court Rolls of the Manor of Deopham of the Dean and Chapter of Canterbury

Sir Thomas Wodehouse is generally referred to in these Court records as “Thomas Woodehouse, knight and Baronet”, as in this example from 1639:-

He was recorded as being a freehold tenant of this Manor, repeatedly “amerced” for not appearing at the meetings of the Court. This last occurred in 1644 when he was amerced 3d.

Sir Armine Wodehouse, 5th Baronet of Kimberley

Biography

Armine Wodehouse lived from c. 1714 to 21 May 1777, and was a member of parliament from 1737 to 1768.
Armine Wodehouse’s second son, Reverend Philip Wodehouse (1745–1811), was the great-grandfather of the author P. G. Wodehouse.
