Deopham History

2021 Interregnum

Following the resignation of the Rev. Colin Reed, the diocese sought to reorganise the local parishes and eventually came up with a plan. In the late nineteenth century and early twentieth Deopham had its own vicar living in the village. The proposal in 2023 is that Deopham should share a vicar with eleven other parishes, and that this vicar will live in Hingham.

The following job specification was advertised in early 2023 but received no applicants.

After the first attempt, the specification was revised to be more specific about the luxury rectory and its summer house, and less direct about the appointment being “daunting” but rather to call it “exciting”. A reduction in the font size has enabled the document to be more compact. Advertising using this revised description started in August 2023.

The second attempt failed to attract any response, so a few typos were corrected, the year changed on the front page, some curious corruptions made to apostrophes, and the pictures of the rectory enlarged. The aspiration of reopening Wicklewood church in 2023 was removed. Advertising was restarted with this document on April 5th 2024.
