Introduction
The maps that refer to Back Lane show it as a continuation of what is now known as Victoria Lane. It may be that this was the name for all of Victoria Lane before the reign of Queen Victoria, or the opening of the Victoria Public House. The 1814 Inclosure documents refer to this lane as “Second Private Road”.
Location
1843 Tithe Map
On this map from 1843 and the corresponding analysis, there is a pightle containing just over an acre called Back Lane Pightle, owned by Taylor Fenix, piece no 92. This is shown on the map below. This would indicate either that Victoria Lane in its entirety was known as Back Lane, or that the title was a generic label not unique to one byway.

1892 Indenture
The following plan was extracted from an agreement dated 1892 for William Allen to take on the lease of Hall Farm (now known as Crown Farm). The document is behind glass so was difficult to photograph clearly. There is more information about the fields appearing on this plan on the Crown Farm page here.

Thanks to Michael Allen for sight of this plan in October 2022.
