  1. The strange appellation of “Somner otherwise Sedley” is explained by the will of Edward Sedley:
    “Provided always & I do make the Severall Devises above mentioned upon Condition that every such Male Person or Persons who shall respectively take any Estate by virtue of any of the Limitations above mentioned and who shall enter upon and have possession of the said Manor and Capitall Messuage and other the Premisses above mentioned, Shall assume, bear and take the Sir name of Sedley.” ↩︎
