Will of John Payne (deceased)
The following extracts from the will of John Payne is quoted in the Court record; the will is dated January 4th 1744
Also I Give, Bequeath and Devise unto Edward Payne, my Son, and his Heirs for ever,
All that Messuage or Tenement with the Barn, Stable, Outhouses, Yards, Gardens, Orchards, Lands, Pastures and Feeding grounds thereunto belonging, scituate and being in Morley Saint Buttolph aforesaid now in the use and Occupation of Nicholas Sparkall, his Assigns or Assignees, Tennant or Under Tennants,
And also all that Messuage or Tenement with the Barn, Stable, Outhouses, Yards, Gardens, Orchards, Lands, Meadows, Pastures and Feeding Grounds thereunto belonging
now in the occupation of James Cooper his Assigns or Assignees, Tennant or Under Tennants, scituate, lying and being in Deopham and Morley St. Buttolph aforesaid or in any other Town or Town thereunto near or next adjoining;
And also All my Lands, Tenements and Hereditaments whatsoever scituate, lying and being in Scoulton ….

- Robert Grigson lived at Hardingham Hall. His only surviving child Elizabeth married John Payne of Hingham. They had three Payne children, John, Thomas Grigson and Edward. However John and Elizabeth died in 1746 and 1747, leaving the three youngsters in the care of their grandfather Robert. Robert died in 1768, aged 83.
John Payne died young in 1756.
Thomas Grigson Payne inherited Robert’s estate in Hardingham.
Edward Payne moved to London.
