The following extracts from the will of John Payne is quoted in the Court record; the will is dated January 4th 1744

  2. It has been noted in the margin that this entry “should have been for 1s 5½d for lands late Cooper’s – this that is entered being Copyhold”. Reference is made to the Court record of 1732. ↩︎
  3. Robert Grigson lived at Hardingham Hall. His only surviving child Elizabeth married John Payne of Hingham. They had three Payne children, John, Thomas Grigson and Edward. However John and Elizabeth died in 1746 and 1747, leaving the three youngsters in the care of their grandfather Robert. Robert died in 1768, aged 83.
    John Payne died young in 1756.
    Thomas Grigson Payne inherited Robert’s estate in Hardingham.
    Edward Payne moved to London.
