Will of Edward Paine
The following extract from the will is quoted in English (Verba Anglicana) in the Court Book; the spellings are inconsistent (particularly with Paine/Payne):-
And also one other inclose of Land lyeing in Deepeham aforesaid Conteyneing by Estimation foure acres and three Roodes, Four acres & one rood thereof I purchased of one George Brooke & the other two Roodes I purchased of Thomas Smith,
And also all those foure Inclosures of Land and Pastures which I purchased of one Leonard Newman lyeing and being in Deepeham
To have & to hold the said premises & every of their Appurtenances unto him the said Edward Paine during the terme of his naturall life & after the decease of him the said Edward Paine, Then to the Issue of his body lawfully begotten & then living;
And for want of such Issue to be then living, I give and bequeath all the said Premises with their Appurtenances unto the aforesaid Stephen Paine & Joseph Payne my Grandchildren & to their heirs for ever to be equally divided between them.
