Sir William de Grey 1583 – 1632
When Sir William de Grey was born on 19 June 1583, in Merton, Norfolk, England, his father, Robert de Grey, was 48 and his mother, Ann Lovell, was 44. He married Ann Calthorpe on 7 October 1601, in Cockthorpe, Norfolk, England. They were the parents of at least 6 sons and 9 daughters. He died on 19 October 1632, in his hometown, at the age of 49, and was buried in Merton, Norfolk, England, United Kingdom… He married Ann Calthorpe daughter of Sir James Calthorpe. He was succeeded by his Son Sir Robert.1
He is referred to in the Courts of the Manor of Shadwells otherwise Cockerells held on May 6th 1622 and October 10th 1626. The last time that he was mentioned was at the Court of October 8th 1632, nine days before his death.
In some instances he is referred to simply as Sir William Grey, other times as Sir William de Grey.

Son of the above William de Grey
Son of Sir William Grey and Anne Calthorpe of Cockthorpe. Husband of Elizabeth Bredon, married about Oct 1632 at Thompson, Norfolk. They had three children; Barbara, William and Anne.
Educated at Bury St Edmunds, Caius College, Cambridge University. Admitted fellow commoner 1629, admitted to the Middle Temple 1631, knighted 1641. His will was dated 27 Feb 1643, proved at Norwich 08 May 1645.
Inscription on Tomb in St Peter’s Churchyard, Merton:
Here under lyeth the body of Sir Robert de Grey Knt. (Sonne and Heyre of Sir Robert de Grey, Knight, late of Merton deceased) who married Elizabeth one of the Daughters and Coheyres of William Bridon late of Ipswich Gent. and had issue by her, William late deceased, Barbara and Anne now living, and departed this Life the 20th Day of October Anno Dni: 1644.2

He married Elisabeth Bridon on 18 October 1632, in Suffolk, England, United Kingdom. They were the parents of at least 1 son and 3 daughters. He died on 20 October 1644, at the age of 32, and was buried in Merton, Norfolk, England, United Kingdom.3
