Extent of the Manor of Deopham of the Prior & Convent of Canterbury 1488

Introduction

This document is in four sections. It starts with an introductory paragraph, and then continues with a lengthy list tenants of freehold property from which the Manor claimed annual rents. Later terriers did not contain the freehold property so this is particularly valuable information. There is a brief section listing freehold property of this Manor in Wicklewood, and finally a listing of the copyhold property.
A 1527 Terrar and Rental explicitly says “excluding the Rectory”: that would appear to be the case with this Extent.

The extent of the Manor of the Lord Prior of Christ Church, Canterbury, and of the convent of the same place, updated by the sworn declaration of both the free tenants and the copyhold tenants of the aforesaid manor, surveyed and assessed for rent in the fourth year of the reign of King Henry VII after the conquest of England, and in the year of Our Lord 1488.
